Planning The Banner

Playing with ideas to represent layers of the story

The session began by reflecting on all the art work we have worked on so far.  We looked through how we have already told various parts of the story of Carlisle's Textile History and in what mediums.  Then we thought through which parts of the story we think are important to include in the banner. 

The Themes we identified are:
Wool & Cotton - the raw materials
The Canal and its influence
The Railway
Machinery and the Mills turning Industrial
Workers and their rights.
The Fabrics produced in Carlisle. Weaving and print
Workers songs and protest themes.

The group discussed and decided to create a banner which will be our own piece of weaving.  Each theme will be a layer to be woven into the banner.  The themes will also be a timeline of activity starting with the raw material of wool and cotton and each person will take one of the layers to work on.  More on these as they take shape!
