Enjoying History

Today we were joined again by pupils from a Cumbrian school and headed to Carlisle library for another session with local historian Stephen White.  We learned more about the living conditions around the early 1800s for the weavers in Carlisle and enjoyed reading about some of the extraordinary ‘health remedies’ available in a newspaper from 1819. One lady was also able to ask Stephen for helps locating the house in Carlisle where she was born which no longer exists and which she has been unsuccessful in locating before. We were also privileged to see and touch a 500 year old book complete with book worm holes!
