History and Inspiration

Today we were joined by two new people so we spent some time reflecting on what we have looked at and learned so far on the project and how that was inspiring our art work. They, like us, had no idea that so much of Carlisle’s residents in the late 18th Century had been weavers working on looms in their homes and that the extensive Mill weaving industry here in Carlisle had grown out of that.

Later a few people in the group continued to work on the their weaving.   One lady had been researching and reading the local Historian, David Renshaw’s books at home and brought both his factual book about railways and his novel in the share with us. We were all surprised to see he had indeed written a novel!   One of the gentlemen in the group started an abstract painting inspired by the local Linton Tweed Fabric.  We will update on that as it progresses.
